Here is a richly deep colored and entrancing matching pair of Tampa Bay Coral . This was a single piece of fossil coral, cut in half to reveal a beautiful alternate world.
It was in a private collection for years, and I was able to obtain a few pieces from the person who got it. I found it at this years Tucson Gem & Mineral Show.
Tampa Bay coral is rare to find today. The last time I obtained any was 20 years ago. The dredging process that would uncover these is no longer used in the Tampa Bay. This is a fossilized coral from 20 - 30 million years ago. As is clearly seen, there is a dramatic world of petite, open crystal chambers and semi translucent agate resembling frozen pond ice. The flattened area has been polished to near perfection. The myriad subtle shades are a mesmerizing combination of hues. This is a collectors piece on several levels.
