Welcome.
Here in the States we use pumpkins this time of year for Halloween celebrations. On the other hand, folks south of the border in Mexico have these as part of their celebrations of deceased loved ones on November 1. Talavera pottery, like with this one, is usually brightly painted. Its eyes and mouth are outlined in black which is a very common art form for Day of the Dead representations. Even so it still has a very festive presence. But then again Day of the Dead is a celebration.
This pumpkin is wider than it is tall, which is very uncommon. Most of the Talavera squashes are nearly perfectly round. Lights can be placed inside to light up at night. The cheerfulness and sense of hope and renewal are appropriate for year round display in your home and garden. These ceramics are well made and the paints are the purest, brightest available for Latin American Folk Art. I have numerous pumpkins for sale so have a look!
