Here is a Mexican Talavera frog. Hand painted and created in Mexico, this piece is very typical of the brilliant colors and designs used in Talavera ceramics. The measurements are from foot to opposite foot which are 12 inches and 13 inches. The piece is heavy and solid and very nice. For folks new to this art medium I want to point out several spots where the underlying clay is exposed. One area is the right front arm and the other is the lower back. During the firing stage some of the glaze has shifted to reveal the exposed clay. This is not damage but is an effect of the process and is normal. Most lovers of this art consider it a sign of authenticity.
