Señor Tomas Quintana - Sculptor
This pottery has been created by Señor Tomas Quintana. Tomas is regarded in the highest levels for his realistic and symbolic representations of the wildlife of Chihuahua. This is the first ever Skull sculpture I have seen or had available. They are quite uncommon. The piece is hand glazed with symbolic, traditional designs first implemented by the ancestors 1000 years ago. The geometric shapes, triangular patterns, and radiating lines are all an homage from a descendant to his great grandparents many times removed.
The effect is intense and unforgettable and reminiscent of the Dia De Muertos celebrations held throughout Mexico on November 1st. There are two vertical holes on the back which van be used for running line through so this can be wall mounted. This is hardened clay but still needs to be handled with focused care, especially if wall hanging. The piece is full and heavy and fully unique to the artist colony of Mata Ortiz.
This figure is new and one of a kind and Señor Quintana has signed the underside.
