Jocelyn Ortiz is a top potter at portraying his own interpretation of the ancient Paquime cultural designs originating in the Mata Ortiz/Casa Grandes region. She is the wife of renowned Potter Fabian Ortiz. Learning from Fabian through the years, it can be difficult to detect where one relatives skills leave off and where the others pick up, their talents are so intertwined. Her scrolls, swirls, feathering and surreal patterns are highly valued for their intricate and intense flow, all hand painted in dynamic detail. 100% of the materials used to make these fine pieces are derived from the land surrounding Mata Ortiz. The soil types for the clay and the materials for dyes occur in unique blends only in this area of Chihuahua. This is created by hand, with great precision and detail of use of the natural, native glaze. In some cases the designs are near microscopic and are indeed wondrous. The artists skills are ultimate and the time to create her works is immense. This pot brings the life giving vibrations of an entrancing southwestern environment to life.
