Señor Tomas Quintana has created another fine animal figure. Sometimes referred as 'The Michelangelo of Mata Ortiz', Señor Quintana's work is a product of great time and precision. His output is low do to the time given each piece, hence figures available for sale are few and far between.
This wonderful and lively statue is of an Otter holding a freshly caught fish, proudly showing it off.
The areas of fur are given a subtle texture as if from a living otter. Even the ears are give the time for detail. Shapes and patterns and swirls all are an homage to the ancestors of the artist colony of Mata Ortiz, the ancestors who originally began this art form a thousand years ago.
Born of the soil and minerals surrounding Mata Ortiz, this is a one of a kind acquisition, and Señor Quintana signs his work!
