Pottery by Señor Che Pedregón rarely comes up for sale.
Che Pedregón is a member of the third generation of potters, descended from the father of the movement, Señor Juan Quezada. Just out of his teens, his inherent talent and desire to carry on the village tradition is obvious. This vase is made from the local white clay. The flow and smooth curves of the pottery are graceful and soft. Che does a wonderful job at combining sophisticated, formal design with spontaneous, ancestral depictions. Around the neck is a sash of the geometric shapes characteristic of his Paquime ancestors of the Casas Grandes region in Chihuahua.
This artwork is light weight and delicate for its size. There are two finely defined open windows opposite to one another. They are outlined with the shapes of the ancestors and nicely complement the artwork. The final masterful touch is the image of a stylized native lizard, camouflaged so it is barely visible, as with the native reptiles of Chihuahua.
Due to its delicateness, this pottery should be exhibited in an area where it is seen and is safe from the normal activity in a home.
The artist signs his work on the underside.
