And his talents were developed in the village of Mata Ortiz deep in the heart of Chihuahua. This piece is a cyclone of movement with surreal patterns evolved from his ancestors from one thousand years ago. The ancient Paquime cultural designs are everywhere. Texture is immense as deep etching known as Sgraffito creates the backbone of the shapes. Darkest brown outlines and internal patterns create the borders between calm and frenetic. White clay with white glaze act as the strongest contrast to the bold and beautiful images glazed within. Even the opening is an entity unto itself with the inner rim creating the shape of a gibbous moon.
