Señor Saul Silbeira - Master Potter
This higher form of Mata Ortiz Artwork is hand created by Master Potter Saul Silbeira. Large, intense, direct and bold, little can be said that the pottery doesn't already speak volumes by its very presence.
The creation of this is painstaking and intensely time consuming. Only the highest level of understanding the nature of the materials used can result in this final outcome. The piece is created from the cleanest and purest of the earthen brown clay taken from the foothills soil around the artist colony of Mata Ortiz. A heavy layer of cream colored glaze is applied by hand in eye crossing detail. The patterns are a merging of the ancient with the contemporary. Designs from the Paquime ancestors of a thousand years ago are honored while adding new and personal touches by their modern descendants.
This pottery is large. It comes with a 3 legged metal stand and a large pottery ring.
Señor Silbeira signs his work on the bottom.
