Artist J. Armando Mora has hand crafted this lovely round pottery. Señor Armando is well known for his near perfectly round vases. His high skill in creating geometric designs is also well known, as is his love in working in black clay. All the materials he uses in his creations are natural and are from the countryside surrounding the village of Mata Ortiz. The design used here is of concentric diamonds side by side and staggered in rows. The field is reigned in with a band on the bottom and a band on the top consisting of repeating shapes of feathers. These depictions are a direct evolution of Señor Moras ancestors styles of design from 1000 thousand years ago. He is a master of creating the black glossy and matte finishes without the use of glaze. Through selective polishing, these entrancing patterns are revealed.
Señor Mora signs his work on the bottom.
