Width = 2.2 inches square
This Mata Ortiz pottery is new. It was hand created into a small box with matching lid by Rosy Mora of the village of Mata Ortiz. Rosy Moras preference is the white clay of the Mata Ortiz area. Many of her depictions are reminiscent of her ancestors work, as in the case of this pottery and and its primitive figures. These elk and deer images are found in petroglyphs throughout the southwest. Part of the value of this piece is from the intense focus and time committed to hand painting each of these animals.
Rosy Mora signs her works on the bottom.
