Señor Oscar Ortiz - Artist
Width - 4.5 inches
Height - 5.25 inches
Mouth - 2.6 inches
Weight - 15 ounces
Fundamental and simply elegant are words which can be used to describe this wonderfully warm Mexican pottery. Created by Señor Oscar Ortiz, this is a foundational pot of which most other contemporary Mata Ortiz pottery is built upon. Señor Ortiz is part of the Ortiz dynasty which helps grease the wheels of the Latin American art movement, with Mata Ortiz at the very center. This diamond shaped art is hand coiled, created from local clay. The dyes and glazes are also local, derived from minerals and plants.
The Glaze is applied heavily, creating complex designs from simple building blocks. Colors of red, blue and black combine harmoniously with the off white background and the turquoise fishes. Señor Ortiz’s love of his natural environment is wonderfully seen, and felt, with this pottery.
A pottery ring is included.
