Señor Jonathan Villa is renowned for his striking pottery. His exceptional craftsmanship combines artistic innovation with traditional techniques.
Each piece is carefully designed to incorporate intricate images. In this particular pottery, a 'loveliness' of ladybugs is featured. Yes, a group of ladybugs is called a 'loveliness'! These are skillfully etched through layers of brick red, romaine green and charcoal black glaze to reveal the underlying native white clay. There is even a early evening blue flower. This method creates visually compelling contrasts and depth in the artwork.
The creation process draws inspiration from the ancient Paquime pottery sherds found around the artist colony of Mata Ortiz, in the Casas Grandes region of Chihuahua, Mexico from about a thousand years ago. These contemporary pottery forms connect directly to a rich cultural heritage, blending history with modern artistry.
For display purposes, a pottery ring is included with each piece, providing a stable and elegant way to showcase the artwork.
