This Superb piece of legacy art is the creation of Señor Antonio Mora.
The scenes, created through selective etching, come from right out of a Shakespeare Play, Latin Style.
It is a midnight scene of celestial wonders and playful nature. A valley of conscience scenery contained in a watershed of encircling, snow-capped mountain peaks. Elk prance while shooting stars send their greetings from the sky. Higher altitude pines and low growth plants accent the hillsides. The entire stage is curtained, both above and below, in ancient Paquime designs of the ancestors a thousand years ago. The shapes are fine and near microscopic. The patterns within are subtly colored with fine points of natural glazes in red, green, pink, turquoise and blue. The colors are so fine that from a distance they hardly effect the pottery, but on close inspection change the entire dynamic of it. The moon floats undeviating while the sun, on the bottom, sleeps. The time and effort to create this, and the uniqueness of originality is immense.
The clay is mined from the Sierra Madre Mountain Range near the village of Mata Ortiz. It is then hand-coiled and glazed using natural dyes.
This inside surface of the matching base clearly shows the artists finger prints and depressions. This is as close as one gets to knowing Señor without meeting him in person. It is a very personal effect.
This is a higher quality Mata Ortiz piece which I have put through rigorous testing, including the sounding test, to assure I am selling the penultimate in pottery from Mata Ortiz. All my pieces go through the gauntlet of quality testing to assure me (and my clients) I am selling pottery of the highest standards of durability and aspect.
Be sure to find the quarter next to the pottery for a good size scale.
Señor Mora signs his works on the underside.
