Hi.
Artisan Ms. Sofia de Teña is the woman responsible for this beauty. Wonderful things do come in smaller sizes. This goose egg sized pottery mimics pottery a thousand years old found in ancient sites around the village of Mata Ortiz. Ms. de Teña spares no expense of time in creating the cheerfully colored geometric shapes that the ancient Paquime were known for. The pottery is glazed on top of native white clay harvested from the nearby Sierra Madre mountain range. Then eggshell white, brick red and black dyes (all created from natural elements around Mata Ortiz) are finely painted onto the the surface and wood fired until hardened into this beautiful ceramic container. This is an old art form with a New World feel. It is the combining of related cultures spanning 1000 years.
This pottery is new and is fresh and has never been privately owned. It comes with a pottery ring to sit on. The Artists signature is on the bottom.
And know with confidence that I hand select each piece for sale and put each piece through a series of tests to make sure it is the highest grade pottery from the artists.
