Señor Eli Ortiz - Artist

Here is Master Potter Eli Ortiz's beehive pot. Fashioned after the shape of the hives that dwell in the trees around the village of Mata Ortiz, this piece has the essential matte and metal finish typical of Señor Ortiz's style. In fact it is the two finishes that combine to create the imagery. A beautiful swirl begins at the mouth of the piece and moves through to the bottom. A repeating pattern of interconnecting squares move along this swirl. As an entirety the pot is strongly representative of the ancient ancestors of Paquime a thousand years ago. This metallic black is near impossible to capture adequately in photos, the mirror effect reflects so much light.
Señor Ortiz work is splendidly individualistic to him.
Artist Ortiz signs his work.
The pottery ring is included with the pottery.
