Here is a beautiful polished Chalcedony open Geode from Utah. This chalcedony has a wonderful reflective surface. Bright light going through at various angles reveal a beautiful glow. Hidden in the window are the most microscopic cluster of crystals at the top. I needed my macro lens to magnify the crystals enough to be visible. They are very delicate and situated in the opening where it is difficult to touch them and damage them. The surface is semi-transparent to see into the depth of the geode. It is like looking into clean ice on a pond. The flat polish has succeeded tremendously in drawing out the effect. The finest chalcedony comes from this western state.
