Artist Ms. Nallely Aldaváz is a member of the Silveira Family of Mata Ortiz. Her pottery takes its own distinctive and lovely path. This piece is wide bodied, tapering toward the top, creating a wonderful step pattern neck. Cheerful earth tone butterflies cover this native white clay piece. There are four, each going about their lives above four blue petal flowers. The images are formed by etching through the colorful glazes down to the underlying white clay. This intensive etching method has created a subtle textured pattern, in lovely rich earth tone hues. The neck of the opening is banded by brick red, leafy green, black and turquoise blue. The patterns and designs are homages to Mata Ortiz’s Paquime ancestors a millennium ago.
