Ms. Araceli Ledezma is responsible for this 'canvas' Of wildness & life. Araceli is a member of the highly regarded Ledezma family of the village of Mata Ortiz. Her portrayal of choice is the native wildlife surrounding the village in the heart of the Chihuahua Desert. Ms. Ledezma creates these images through very steady hands which etch through the top layer of black glaze down to the underlying native white clay. Her images include toucans, butterflies, hummingbirds and dragonflies, as well as a fawn and a rabbit. I count eleven images. The background sky is a myriad of triangle shapes blending into a single presence.
Ms. Ledezmas creations are formed from materials retrieved in the natural resources provided by the surrounding environment.
Ms. Ledezma signs her pottery on the underside.
