This pottery has been created by Señor Tomas Quintana. Tomas is regarded in the highest levels for his realistic and symbolic representations of the wildlife of Chihuahua. This is a Mountain Lion. The symbolic aspect arises from the use of traditional designs first implemented by his ancestors 1000 years ago. The wedge patterns, Paquime feathers and random designs are all an homage from a descendant to his great grandparents many times removed.
The realism is wonderfully portrayed in the lifelike texture of the surface, face, ears and everywhere else. The piece is full and heavy and so unique to the artist colony of Mata Ortiz.
