Moonstone occurs in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Most often it is found in jewelry. It is very rare that is offered to the mineral collector in this form. 'This form' is this polished, substantial hunk. This Moonstone is found in Madagascar and is beautiful in its unique peach and caramel brown hues. These Moonstones are well known for their Adularescence. Adularescence is the visual appearance of what looks to be thick, mirrored steam just under the surface. The effect catches light and moves depending on how the stone is held and displayed. It is caused by the diffraction of light as it hits thin, alternating layers of crystals right below the surface. In jewelry the effect is not unlike sapphires. In large pieces like this, it is unmistakable and magical. The video nicely exhibits the 'steam'. All the Moonstone I offer is the highest grade in this color coming out of the island nation.
