Any of of Memo and Aracely Valeras pieces of pottery are known for the elaborate details of the hand painted geometry, and the ancient Paquime shapes. This pottery is no exception. The eye bending chromatic patterns envelope the entire work. What this partnership has evolved with their ancestors original ancient art is truly astonishing. Their elevation of the southwestern pottery culture has barely been equaled.
Nearly every color glaze possible from the soil of Mata Ortiz is used. The entire pottery is bisected with a brick red sash. It very much is like a kaleidoscope emerging from earthen pottery.
The pricing of this pottery is based on the worldwide respect for these artists, the complexity of their designs, and the literal hours and hours of their time to conjure up this superior folk art.
The use of these double spout vessels carries over into numerous southwestern cultures. Their ceremonial use in pre-marriage traditions and marriage rites is significant and too involved to describe here, but makes for very interesting reading. Suffice it to say, one spout is for the groom and one spout is for the bride.
I find the finest of the superb pieces through detailed examination and testing to assure they last for generations.
