Pottery by Señor Che Pedregón rarely comes up for sale. Fortunately this year at the Tucson Show, I was able to procure a number of these.
Che Pedregón is a member of the third generation of potters, descended from the father of the movement, Señor Juan Quezada. Just out of his teens, his inherent talent and desire to carry on the village tradition is obvious. This vase is made from the local white clay.
This beautiful open concept pottery is comprised of straps connected together to create this masterpiece. The flow and smooth curves of the pottery are graceful and soft. Che does a wonderful job at combining sophisticated, formal design with spontaneous, ancestral depictions. The sashes are designed with the geometric shapes characteristic of his Paquime ancestors of the Casas Grandes region in Chihuahua. This artwork is light weight and delicate for its size.
Due to its delicateness, this pottery should be exhibited in an area where it is seen and is safe from the normal activity in a home.
The artist signs his work on the underside.
