Artist Tomasa Mora has hand crafted this lovely and graceful pottery. With a rounded form, low profile, and short neck, the style reflects tradition from one thousand years ago to her Paquime ancestors. They lived in the Casas Grandes region of Chihuahua Mexico, where modern day Mata Ortiz is located. The glaze is stone rubbed to produce the black mirror finish. This is the deepest, richest shined black glaze found. The designs are heavy in geometric influences and stand out due to the finesse given in combining a matte finish with a mirrored finish. The collar is a band of design known as a 'tick' pattern. It is elegant and beautiful. Do not put water in this pottery.
