 This is the largest and most festive piece of Talavera pottery I have had the opportunity to offer. This is the Saguaro cactus native to Sonora, Mexico. This is stunning in the deft use of contrasting and bold coloration. The blue flowered tips of the arms are richly enhanced by white dotted ringlet pattern in their centers. Each shade enriches the other. And no Talavera piece of this size would be considered really authentic without a festival of other colors and shapes. These patterns and colors would contradict each other in almost any other endeavor, but the artisans south of the border know how to make this art form work into a carnival of beauty unique to the southwestern desert region.
