Artist N. Andrew Hernandez is the genius behind this pottery. As with all pottery coming out of the artist colony of Mata Ortiz, this is handmade without the use of a potters wheel. There is a stair step neck. On a hand smoothed surface, Señor Hernandez uses two shades of glaze, and good amount of time and ingenuity, to create this beautiful folk art. And to cap it off, white glaze has been lightly dappled across the entire surface. Artist Hernandez abilities in pottery design are known far and wide. This piece is wonderful and intense with its bold use of the contrasting glazes. The designs are sharp and flawless.
