Perisphinctes is a genus of ammonites from the Middle to Late Jurassic. Its fossils have been found worldwide, in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. It is used as in 'index' fossil, meaning 'it is characteristic of a particular span of geologic time or environment, and can be used to identify and date the containing rocks'.
This Ammonite from the east African island nation of Madagascar is in great condition. These are popular to collectors because of the fine definition and low cost.
This was obtained directly from the people who oversee the excavations in Madagascar. An acrylic display stand is included.
