This is an outstandingly detailed Crinoid. It has been repaired/restored from when it split in two. Epoxy was used to strongly join the two halves as in the manner of the Moroccan excavators.
The top half nicely features the bottom section of a typical flower which dips down into the bottom half. That half has a very well defined stem. The left area has wonderful detail of the body (calyx) of the Crinoid. The hexagonal plates which form the body are in pristine detail. Close up observation even reveals fine filament (pinnule) gracing the arms. These separate pieces could all belong to the same animal, OR, could be scattering from a deposition field of numerous dead crinoids. In either case, combined these provide the significant parts of this species anatomy.
These crinoids date to the Silurian and Devonian Periods of the Paleozoic Era, 443 Million Years Ago to 358 Million years ago. Crinoids were filter feeders. Anchored to the sea floor, a long stem would extend up to the crown. The pinnule are the very fine filaments that would collect microscopic plankton and other sea life that flowed through them to then be consumed as food.
An acrylic stand is included.
