This is an enormous and heavy Moroccan Stromatolite. If you are looking at this listing, you are probably well informed as to stromatolites significance and nature. But here's a quick review. This is a fossil of layer upon layer of bacterial growth eventually making mounds and lumps, and in the Moroccan region they are formed into hardened sandstone.
This Stromatolite is 'only' 600 million to 1 billion years old. Stromatolites in general are the oldest fossils of a once existing, bacterial life form. These bacteria began their existence before the dinosaurs, before the crinolines, before anything else. These are the grandparents of all future life.
Specimens this size for sale are almost unheard of. This fossil has very fine featured 'towers' everywhere, and the concentric rings are spectacularly detailed.
