Señor Tomas Quintana - Sculptor
This pottery has been created by Señor Tomas Quintana. Tomas is regarded in the highest levels for his realistic and symbolic representations of the wildlife of Chihuahua. This is a representation of native fish. The symbolic aspect arises from the use of traditional designs first implemented by his ancestors 1000 years ago. The wedge patterns, Paquime feathers and celestial eyes are all an homage from a descendant to his great grandparents many times removed.
The realism is wonderfully portrayed in the lifelike texture of the surface, face, fins and everywhere else. The piece is full and heavy and so unique to the artist colony of Mata Ortiz.
Any 'flaws' such as the tiny opening on the dorsal fin are part of the folk art process of creation and are original to the piece.
This figure is new and one of a kind and Señor Quintana has signed the underside.
