Prevailing pottery artisan Señor Eli Ortiz created this blackened ceramic beauty. He is one of the finest potters from the world famous Chihuahua Village of Mata Ortiz. And the town of Mata Ortiz has the finest in Latin American ceramics.

Señor Ortiz excels in the field of black clay. The clay is hand dug and cleaned by him. Through precise and complicated procedures, the finest features are discerned through his use of matte and glossy finishes. He has taken rudimentary designs originated by his ancestors from 1000 years ago, and with his own additions to the tradition, this work of art is created. The designs are intricate and complex, eye crossing and kaleidoscopic. Three veil tailed fishes surround the pottery extending from the top to the bottom. They appear suspended in water.

One more feature uniquely Eli Ortiz is the clover opening. The three overlapping leaves are his creation.
Señor Ortiz is also known for placing his signature in unusual areas, and this piece is no exception.
