Welcome.
This is a wonderfully LUMPY Crinoid from the world famous Morocco fossil beds. This piece possesses a full Flower and parts of the stem. The edges of the slab reveal numerous other pieces of crinoids that passed away in this fossil bed. The large and finely detailed flower head measures 6 inches across to 3.5 inches in height. The calyx and its plates are clearly visible. The fine feather-like pinnule extending from the arms are preserved in superb microscopic detail. There is even the impression of another flower in the bottom right area. The features are breathtaking. This fossil will raise any collection to an expert level.
These crinoids date to the Silurian and Devonian Periods of the Paleozoic Era, 443 Million Years Ago to 358 Million years ago. As with nearly all crinoid specimens of this stature, this fossil has been restored using established methods of fossil re-cementing. The restoration is on an expert level and nearly invisible.

Crinoids were filter feeders. Anchored to the sea floor, a long stem would extend up to the crown. The pinnule are the very fine filaments that would collect microscopic plankton and other sea life that flowed through them to then be consumed as food. For the Scyphocrinites fossils, the large flower in great preservation and detail, as well as the fine pinnule visibly extending from the arms in this animal, is quite remarkable and wonderful.
An acrylic stand is included.
