This is a Congolese Malachite Egg. D.R. Congo is known throughout the world for having the finest of these gems. The egg has a superior polish. Because of this, the fine layering and striations are intense and sharp. This egg is one of those rare pieces which has intense concentric striations on one side and a fine spider web network of neurons on the other. The dark concentric side has a fantastic piece breaking off. It resembles a satellite image of and iceberg breaking off of an ice shelf in the Arctic. Is is quite dramatic. The entire piece has the breathtaking green Congolese malachite is famous for, ranging from an nearly black green to the softest light emerald imaginable. I acquired this mineral directly from the Congolese folks who handled the mining and shaping of this exquisite egg. I include a small nylon ring for setting this on.
