Luz Elva Gutierrez - Sculptor
This unique piece of Mata Ortiz artwork has been created by artisan Luz Elva Gutierrez. Luz stands out in the artist colony in the heart of Chihuahua. She focuses on objects rarely created. This is a lovely petite flask. It is made of native white clay which has been harvested from the surrounding foothills. It is glazed with an egg shell white glaze. A lovely and gentle image of a hummingbird, feeding midair on flowers, has been etched and delicately glazed in several shades, bringing the details to life.
Either side of the spout are hook holes which have a single leather strap threaded through them, enabling this to be hung for display.
The back is signed by Artist Gutierrez adding to its overall charm.
