Canadian Amethyst is also knowns as Thunder Bay Amethyst or Red Cap amethyst. The featured crystal is where the 'Red Cap' moniker comes from. This crystal is found only in a very localized area of Thunder Bay in Ontario. It is immediately recognized with its heavy dusting of hematite which gives it its rich dark grainy red appearance.
The specimen is on single massive point. The size is fantastic for a Canadian Amethysts. The purple amethyst underneath is very beautiful, and it is clear how thin and delicate the red hematite layer on top is.
Several photos might seem identical, but the lighting has moved to accentuate how varied this point looks on the slightest change in orientation. Be sure to see the video to see how brilliantly the facets glimmer in the light.
