Here is one of Master Pottery Eli Ortiz's gourd shaped pieces of pottery. Fashioned after the shape of the native gourds of the Casas Grandes region, this piece has the essential matte and metal finish typical of Señor Ortiz's style. In fact it is the two finishes that combine to create the imagery. Three prominent fancy-tail fish swim around the pottery with ripples of water surrounding them. Hash symbols representing shamanistic transformation also band around the vase (perhaps the fish are the shamans after their transformation). The pot as an entirety is strongly representative of the ancient ancestors of Paquime a thousand years ago. This metallic black is near impossible to capture adequately in photos, the mirror effect reflects so much light. This is why it is good to refer to the video as well.
Señor Ortiz work is splendidly individualistic to him.
Artist Ortiz signs his work.
The ring is included with the pottery.
