This is a wonderful pot created Señor Abraham Gutierrez. This is the first piece by this artisan I have had the honor to feature.
This is a larger Mata Ortiz with a strong presence about it. Señor Gutierrez has used a light earth toned clay native to the foothills surrounding his village. He also uses locally created glaze and applies these eye bending, Kaleidoscopic designs with hand made brushes. The combination of black and red glaze on the cream colored surface has produced images like those of his Paquime ancestors from the Casas Grandes region. These designs are as brilliant and impressive as they were 1000 years ago.
An incredible amount of time, and an incredible amount of patience were dedicated in this creation becoming available here today.
