Señor Tomas Quintana - Sculptor
This pottery has been created by Señor Tomas Quintana. Tomas is regarded in the highest levels for his realistic and symbolic representations of the wildlife of Chihuahua. Here is a standing rabbit, gentle in expression and pose. The symbolic aspect arises from the use of traditional designs first implemented by his ancestors 1000 years ago. The Paquime feathers, checkered patterns, and mask designs on the face are all an homage from a descendant to his great grandparents many times removed.
The realism is wonderfully portrayed in the lifelike texture of the fur, face, ears and everywhere else. The piece is full and heavy and so unique to the artist colony of Mata Ortiz.
This figure is new and one of a kind and Señor Quintana has signed the underside.
