Douvilleiceras is a genus of ammonites from the Middle to Late Cretaceous. Its fossils have been found worldwide, in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. This Douvilleiceras Ammonia from the east African island nation of Madagascar is in superb condition with skilled handling bringing it to this point. The fossil is coated with a off white layer. Where this layer is worn through, you will see glimpses of the oak leaf suturing forming complex divisions between the chambers of the animal. The more complex the suturing, the more highly evolved the ammonite, meaning it is a younger fossil. The preservation from excavation is very nice.The common name 'Tractor' is from its resemblance to heavy treads on the tires of farming equipment.
